Stocky is shutting down: the checklist to work through first
Shopify is retiring Stocky. It left the App Store on 2 February 2026 and stops working after 31 August 2026. This is the practical checklist: what disappears, what to get out first and the sequence that avoids a gap in cover.

If you read one thing
Export your supplier records this week. They are the hardest data to get out of Stocky cleanly, nobody else holds a copy for you and there is no way to reconstruct lead times and minimum order quantities once the app is gone.

The dates that matter

Shopify has adjusted timelines on other retirements before, so confirm the current position on the Shopify Help Center Stocky page rather than planning solely around a date you read anywhere, this page included. Plan for the earlier date regardless. An extension is a bonus, a surprise is an incident.
What you lose when it goes
- Purchase order history. Every order raised, received and costed inside Stocky.
- Supplier records. Contacts, lead times and minimum order quantities. The hardest part to export and the most painful to rebuild from memory.
- Cost prices held in Stocky rather than on the Shopify variant.
- Stocktake history and the audit trail behind it.
- Demand forecasts and any reorder suggestions you were working from.
- The low stock report, which for many stores is the only screen anyone opened.
Do not uninstall early. Shopify warns that data from an uninstalled Stocky might not be retrievable if you reinstall. Export everything first, then leave it alone until it switches itself off.
The export checklist
- Suppliers first. Whatever the export gives you, open it and check the lead time and minimum order quantity columns actually came through. If they did not, copy them into a spreadsheet by hand. Tedious for an hour, unrecoverable afterwards.
- Purchase orders, full history. Not only open ones. Received quantities and unit costs are what gets asked for at year end.
- Cost prices. If they live in Stocky, push them onto the Shopify variant cost field so margin reporting survives the move.
- Stocktakes. Export for the audit trail.
- Your working thresholds. Write down the reorder points you were actually using. That number encodes real knowledge about your lead times and it is not written down anywhere else.
- Store it properly. A dated folder in the team drive that is backed up. Not one person's downloads folder.
Then decide what you actually need to replace
The expensive mistake is assuming you need one app that does everything Stocky did. Most stores used a fraction of it.
Be honest about which of these you opened in the last three months:
- Raised purchase orders? You need a full inventory app.
- Acted on a forecast? Acted on, not looked at. If yes, you need forecasting.
- Counted stock or moved it between locations? Shopify admin covers this natively at no cost.
- Only checked what was running low? A focused low stock alerts app covers it and costs a fraction of a full suite.

Give yourself an overlap week
Set the replacement up while Stocky is still running. Compare the two for a week on live stock movement, watch one product go down and come back up, confirm the alert fired when you expected and cleared when you restocked.
Migrating on the last day means discovering any mismatch at exactly the moment you have no fallback. There is no reason to take that risk when overlapping is free.

Can I keep using Stocky after 31 August 2026?
No. Shopify's Help Center states the app will no longer be available after that date. It was removed from the App Store on 2 February 2026, so it is already impossible to install fresh.
Why is Shopify retiring Stocky?
Shopify is consolidating inventory capability into Shopify admin and Shopify POS rather than maintaining a separate app. Stocky had also seen limited development for some time.
What happens to my purchase orders?
They go with the app unless you export them first. Export the full history rather than only open orders, because received quantities and costs are what you will be asked for at year end.
Is Shopify's native inventory enough to replace Stocky?
For counting stock, adjusting quantities and transferring between locations, yes. It also costs nothing. It does not cover purchase orders, supplier records or alerts that reach you without opening the admin.
